The drama classes at Mount de Sales provide opportunities to develop a keen sense of self awareness, confidence and stage presence. Students learn to work collaboratively in a creative atmosphere that allows for deeper exploration of scripts and cultural context as applied to the world we live in today. As students examine theatre history and design, they create conceptual work based on careful script analysis and apply those designs in stagecraft. Honors level classes are offered for both the acting and technical theatre tracks.
The acting classes share their skills through student-produced One Act Plays and at the Fine Arts Festival. Technical theatre students are able to use their gifts by helping to design and create elements of the set for the school musical production. At Mount de Sales, the purpose of developing theatrical talent in students is “to put it at the service of their neighbour and of humanity as a whole.” (Pope John Paul II).
