Sharon Birkett '86
As the team’s top rebounder in 1985, Sharon Birkett led the Mount de Sales Academy Basketball team to their second and final Baltimore Catholic League championship in the school’s history. Sharon’s rebounds at a pace of 9.9 per game did not inhibit her from putting points on the board, as she averaged 13.4 points per game. This scoring was in spite of defenses that frequently double and triple teamed her.
Her most memorable statistical display came in the four games of the playoff run to the Catholic League crown where she scored a total of 71 points and had 48 rebounds.
The 5-foot, 11-inch tall Sailor was honored for her play as a Catholic League All Metro Team pick (1986); Baltimore Sun Player of the Week; Catonsville Times Player of the Week; and basketball team captain (1984-85; 1985-86).
Besides her work on the basketball court, Sharon also played shortstop and first base for the MDSA softball team.
After graduating from Mount de Sales, Sharon received a basketball scholarship to play at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Sharon is now living in Florida where she is a third grade teacher.
